Virginia is a Canadian artist who specializes in techniques that were

mastered by the Venetians over 500 years ago and held as closely guarded

secrets for centuries. Working as a team with her husband Tony, she has

developed her art to incorporate various types of simple and complex glass

canes and murrini as the decorative medium on her forms. What follows

are linear, threadlike and detailed organic patterns that dance and sway on

shimmering works, captivating the imagination and stimulating wonder in

the viewer.

“Nature's colors and shapes whisper softly into my pieces. Patterns of

creation subtly inform my work. My rods of glass have been compared to

strands of DNA, the building blocks of life itself. In that context, my glass art

reflects the strength and fragility of nature’s works. I find it fitting to use

them exclusively in my works that are molded by my experiences and

inspired by my dreams.”

Her infatuation with the Venetian glassmaking techniques in her creation of

filigrana and murrini glass rods have led her to combine furnace working

techniques with lamp working, resulting in the creation of her uniquely

styled complex vessels and beautiful jewelry incorporating her art glass

She has received many awards, scholarships and grants for her work.

Virginia’s glass has been exhibited widely in both juried and invitation only

exhibitions across Canada and the United States. Her work is represented

in private and public collections throughout North America and abroad.

Most notably, selections of her work are housed at the Royal Ontario

Museum (ROM) in Toronto, Canada and the Smithsonian Institute in

Washington, D.C.
