Following 20 years as a graphic artist, Carolyn Filter discovered clay and became a potter who today makes ceramic pieces that are both thought-provoking and beautiful.
Her pieces include custom items, unique wedding gifts and items for everyday use such as serving platters and centerpieces, along with whimsical gift items and playful, ornate teapots and tureens, some with personalized imagery.
The shores of the Credit River serve as inspiration, reminiscent of Carolyn’s childhood in England where she waded in the river searching for shards of discarded pottery that she would put back together. Not surprisingly, her pottery designs are influenced by 18th century European tableware. Bright glazes on mid-range porcelain, with gold and platinum lustres and decals demand multiple firings.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Toronto, a Visual Arts diploma from Sheridan College and also completed three years in Sheridan College’s ceramics program.
