Eileen Millen

The Williams Mill family is devastated by the sudden death, on Saturday, 27th February 2010, of Eileen Millen, one of our stone sculptors.  Eileen, a very talented artist, joined the Mill Community six years ago at the formation of the Stone Sculpting studio. She is remembered as a kind and gentle person whose smile warmed all those around her. We will miss her unfailing support of the Mill, and her superb talent as an artist.

Eileen Millen worked in Computer System Administration for twenty one years. In the early 1990s she rediscovered her passion for the arts when she started taking part-time Art Courses at Sheridan College.

Today, after working with various sculpture media, Eileen has found her niche as a stone sculptor.

Working primarily in soapstone, alabaster and marble, her major inspiration is the human head and face as vehicles for expressing emotion. In her pieces Eileen often varies the two sides of the human face to represent life’s conflicts and constraints.

Most recently she has experimented with textural variation in her work including leaving parts of the stone rough to enhance the emotional complexity and humanity of each piece.

In addition to Sheridan College, Eileen has taken sculpture courses at The Mississauga Sculpture Studio and Fleming College’s Haliburton School of the Arts.
