Jim Reid’s paintings depict the fragility and resilience of nature and play upon our inability to control nature, despite living in a technological world. He often chooses materials for their tactile qualities to explore growth and decay as found in nature’s cycles.
Jim is fascinated with nature’s order and chaos. In “Travellers” his subject was the glacial boulders deposited at random across the Canadian Shield. In “Ferals”, apple trees scattered through the landscape near his Terra Cotta, Ontario studio proved inspirational.
Jim has worked as an artist since the early 1980s. His work has appeared in numerous group and solo exhibits across Canada including most recently at Canada Quay, Harbourfront Centre and a group exhibit at Burlington Art Centre.
Jim has a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from New Brunswick’s Mount Allison University, and a Bachelor of Science from Ontario’s McMaster University.
Jim’s work appears in selected collections across Canada.
